What A Beautiful Day To Get MUDDY!!!!!!!!! AKA The Mud Hero

What would the mud hero be without a little mud?  Last year when my husband and I took part in the mud hero we felt it was lacking in mud.  The event planners hadn't planned on the heat wave and the sheer number of participants.  This year...they made up for it in spades.

What a difference a year makes.  Last year was completely unknown.  I was so full of nervous energy when we all piled into the corral last year.  It was hot, the music loud and the obstacles were somewhat unknown to me.  There were traffic jams coming into the venue.  They ran out of water which meant that the best way to clean up included a steep climb down a river bank and a quick plunge into the mountain river.  I remember feeling refreshed for all of 7 minutes until I realized that I had to climb back up the bank in order to go home.

This year traffic flowed relatively smoothly into the venue.  Race kits were quickly picked up.  We broke the rules by jumping into an earlier heat.  No sense in standing around for another hour waiting to race.  After all it is our timing chip that gets us a free beer...so we couldn't stand around enjoying a pre-race beverage.  We were happily in the back of the pack.  We had no interest in running the mud hero this year. Instead it was going to be a nice, leisurely stroll through a ski hill.  I fervently prayed that the chair lift would be running.  It wasn't.  What twisted individual decides to make the race on a ski hill?  Next year I am running it in Saskatchewan.  Surely the grounds will be flatter.

I loved the mud hero obstacles compared to the Spartan ones.  The obstacles were fun, not incredibly daunting and still made you feel like you accomplished them.  I think that my favorite obstacle was one of the last.  A giant bouncy slide.  I giggled the entire way down.  My second favorite obstacle was the water slide aka super slide.  Who wouldn't love a 12ft high winding water slide that delivers you directly into a 4ft deep pit of mud.  There was no staying clean on this obstacle.  I wasn't all that happy to see the spidey web back again this year.  It is about 20 feet of trail with bungee rope tied this way and that.  I never fail to get hung up as I am trying to make my way through it.  Hamburger Hill was another beast of an obstacle.  It was an incredibly steep climb up a hill.  I knew it was going to be ugly when we approached and they had ropes hanging down to assist with the climb.

When we completed the Mighty Spartan Sprint I was able to write about moments where we motivated others and brought Liz onto her team after her own team left her behind.  This race was different.  I was the one being motivated.  A woman was struggling along so I decided to spark up a conversation with whatever breath I had left.  She was here with her boot camp class.  She signed up for the mud hero weighing 240 lbs and she was racing at 190 lbs.  I was very proud of her.  As we moved on past her we came to yet other steep climb.  As I was swearing my way up the hill and thinking that it would be easier to quit I looked over to my right and watched a women who was in her 70's climbing right along side me.  Sure she probably even had to stop and take a break or two but she was doing it.  My girlfriend looked at me and said...we better still be doing these races when we get to that age.  I have to say she was very inspiring.  I stopped swearing, kicked it into another gear and made it to the top.

It doesn't matter to me how fast I finish these races.  What I focus on is the finish.  My team makes me proud as we finished as a team.  Trish, you could have left us in the dust.  Chris, the fact that you were willing to compete even with your calf and achilles in bad shape makes me love you even more.  It also makes me shake my head at you and call you crazy.  But I have known you were crazy ever since you married me.  And I am proud of myself.  It would have been easier to sit at home on the couch.  It would have been more thirst quenching to sit on a patio and drink slushy drinks.  But like my finisher medal says "The Best Part of The Race Doesn't Wash Away".

I did this.  And no one can take the feeling of accomplishment away from me.

There is one last person who made my day.  As we were sitting in the beer gardens enjoying a burger and a beer (hey don't judge - we earned it) a lady gave my daughter a toberlone bar.  Delaney was fussy and not happy that she had to sit next to her muddy mother.  So to the soft spoken security guard who bought me enough time to scarf down my burger...Thank You!

To Melanie and Bailey - Good Luck Tomorrow!  Don't wear white!  Keep your mouth tightly closed in the last obstacle.  Laugh and have fun.

To the Event Organizers and Volunteers - Thank you!  Without you this event would not have the amazing energy that it has.  The Mud Hero reminds me that I am a work in progress.  It is a highlight of my summer.  And we will be registering for next year.

To everyone reading this and thinking...hey....why not spend $65 to abuse your body and get muddy...feel free to join me next year.  We are adding the Tough Mudder to the race card.

Have an absolutely beautiful day!

Much Love,

Lisa

The Final Day of the 31 Day Blog Challenge

Today is the final day of the 31 day blog challenge.  This challenge encouraged me to grow.  It got me writing each and every day.  And for this I will always be thankful.

When I first signed up for this challenge I never really gave it much thought as to what it would bring into my life.  I did think that I would write every day.  I just was not certain as to the quality of the posts that I would be putting out there.  And as I look back at my blog posts from the past months some of them are really quite good.  This makes me incredibly happy.  I have also increased the traffic to my blog this past month by nearly 150%  Now more people know that A Pocket Full Of Rocks Exists.

I did think that I would find some interesting blogs to follow.  Which I did.  I did not learn however, how to ling my blog to theirs...so that is something that I will need to continue to work on.  Here are my top five bloggers. Please note that they are not in any particular order.

DeAnn Malone strategicserendipityblogspot.ca
Tilla Brook      tillabrookcoaching.com
Susan             swrightboucher.wordpress.com
Tami Lynn - She will be removing her blog but I just wanted to include her because she kicked this challenges ass and I loved reading it!
Kieta Lynn      kietalife.blogspot.ca

I have learned to make writing a priority in my life.  I have blogged every day and I have also taken part in a 31 day challenge over at 750words.com .  I did however miss two days there because I wasn't willing to try and type 750 words out using my phone.  I will be sure to try again in August though.

The very best thing to come out of this challenge are the friendships.  Heck I even found myself with a BFF (Blogger Friend Forever).  I know that I have someone out there in the blog world that I can bounce ideas off of.  I also know that this friendship will continue to blossom for years to come.

I also know that I am incredibly grateful for Lesa Townsend who started and facilitated this challenge.  If you are looking for help to market your business on the internet you need to stop wasting time and head to http://conversation2sales.com .  This woman knows what she is talking about.

To you fellow challengers who may be reading this current post - Thank You For Your Support.  Please be sure to stay in touch.

To Everyone Else Who Reads This Blog - Thank you.  Thank you for taking the time to read it as often as you.  It means the world to me.

Much Love,

Lisa

Ps:  Stay Tuned for another blog post celebrating my Husband's 40th Birthday which is today!

Fear? Or Faith??? Victim? Or Leader?

Day 23 of the #31 Day Blog Challenge.  Woot Woot.

As I was standing in the shower ( I do my best thinking there) I started to question where I make my decisions from.  When I am making a decision do I make it from a place of fear?  Filling the role of the Victim?  Or do I make the decision from a place of Faith? As a Leader of my Life?  Do I stand in a position of Power?  Or crouch in the corner and cower?

We are always presented with choices.  There is a flip side to every coin.  I am not saying that there is always a choice that is filled with sunshine and rainbows.  Sometimes we have to choose between two outcomes and neither of them seem very good.  That is what life is like at times.  It is our mindset that determines the outcome.  If we make choices as a victim we will never be pleased with the turnout.  We will always be looking to fix blame on someone.  Even if the outcome was good...we will be looking to blame someone for why it wasn't even better.  And that someone we will fix blame on will never be ourselves.  It will always be others.  When we make a decision from a place of power we are focusing less on the problem and more on the solution.  We can see the current choice as a springboard or stepping stone to move us further ahead.  When we act out of fear we are unable to move ahead smoothly because we are dragging the past along with us.  All that baggage makes it hard to move forward with much momentum.

When you go to make a decision ask yourself...fear or faith...where am I acting from?  If it is fear...call a time out.  Take a deep breath and look at how you could tweak your mindset to make yourself feel better about the decision. Do YOUR best.  That is all that matters.  And remember...you are exactly where you should be. After all you have spent your entire life getting to this very spot.

Have a Brave and Beautiful Day!

The Pressure of Perfection

Perfection is a platform for failure - Lisa Friedt

Sometimes I struggle with being a life coach.  I love what it is that I do.  In fact it never feels like work at all.  It feels like an incredible blessing.  Each and Every Day.  Not many people have the luxury of saying that.

You are probably wondering where the heck the struggle comes in...well people have an expectation for my life to be "perfect". That if I am a successful coach I would have figured out and fixed any area of my life that is not fully functioning.  Well truth be told...my life is not perfect.  I would never want it to be.  I want it to be a mix of ups and downs.  With more ups than downs of course.  If my life never faced challenges what would motivate me to reach higher heights?  To dream bigger dreams?  To strive for bigger and better?

I think that what makes me the coach that I am is my willingness to share my imperfections.  To talk about my failures and to allow others to use those failures as a springboard to success. I am a work in progress as is everyone else.  I have good days and bad.  I don't always see things through rose colored glass.  But I keep working at it. Every day.

Do you share stories of your struggles?  Or of your success?  Or both?  What motivates you to do so?  When I share a story it is not to make me look good.  It is so that others may learn from it.  Whether it is to inspire them or to paint a picture of what not to do.

There are areas in my life that I see as growth opportunities.  And when I do inner work in those areas it is definitely uncomfortable.  Each moment is a tug a war between fear and faith.  My ego fears the change.  It tells me that the growth is unnecessary.  That things are fine just the way they are.  That there are risks to changing.  My faith tells me that we are here to grow and evolve and help others along the way.  If we question whether or not we have grown enough...the answer is quite simple...if you are around to ask the question...you are not finished growing yet.  We are here for a reason, a purpose and only when we have fulfilled that purpose do we move on.  Whether that be heaven or another live time or someplace else depending upon your beliefs.

Life is meant to have its challenges.  That helps you to develop an attitude of gratitude.  Two steps forward, one step back is still progress.  Tony Robbins says "Progress equals Happiness."  If we are not growing we are not living - we are in fact dying.  One day I was listening to John C. Maxwell speak and he said...so many people are already dead they just haven't realized it yet. I think that people allow the quest for perfection to be the perfect excuse to not even start.  Oh, well I'll never be perfect so why even bother.  One of my favorite Zig Ziglar quotes is "You don't have be great to start, but you do have to start to get great."

Today, as you go about your day, look for areas that you are unwilling to develop within yourself.  Spend time asking why you are resisting.  Release that resistance.  Drown out the ego.  And take small steps to grow in that area.  I believe you will find great reward in doing so.  Today I will do the same.  And together we will celebrate.  Strive for excellence over perfection.

I wish you a day as beautiful as you are.

Much Love,
Lisa
